Carlos Portillo

His interest in artistic creation has always played an important role in his life. He finds in design a way to combine art and technique, becoming a way of expression.

From the beginning of his professional career he has been involved with design and industrial projection and production. He was part of a multi-skilled team that created the design studio “Estudio Abisal” in his hometown Badalona (Barcelona), specialized in commercial interior design as well as industrial design

After several years of work and collaborations with different companies in the industrial and interior design sectors, “Portillo Estudio” was founded in 2009.

Our passion for both art and design prevents us from quandaries. We sail through the two areas naturally while we enjoy the travel, running away from the rigidity in our designs and expressing ourselves with our own criteria, based on knowledge and imagination.
A broad perspective on the limits of design and art allows us to move on the lines of demarcation and to cross them if necessary, depending on the purpose and goals to be achieved, working on projects from different design areas.

We value creation, from the most rationalist design in which the shape is secondary to the function, to the design in which the aesthetic plays an essential role or in which the boundaries between art and design are blurred. This way, we open the door to new artistic and functional opportunities. Testing new materials and searching for new uses and applications which are different from the already known ones enables us to achieve innovative solutions.

We design and producedesigner pieces and functional art pieces in limited or unique editions under the brand numúur, singular pieces with their own character whose presence fill the space, captivate interest and are pleasant to behold, featuring the beauty that can only be explained by itself.
